Livin' It Up In The Big Smoke...

As they say in the muppets…

… There’s only one more sleep til christmas…

And I’m finally getting excited about it. I don’t know why but I have been particularly bah humbug about this particular time of the season. No joy has filled my heart, i want to beat carol singers out of my way and chirstmas songs just made me want to vomit. However, having finished my final shift for the wekend I can say the christmas spirit may well be finally upon me. This may also be because my boss bought me a pair of tinsely deely boppers to wear behind the bar which had me giggling like a loon for a good 20 minutes!

So yes, this year I have both chirstmas day and boxing day off, which makes a change from last year when i worked both! So I get to have my champagne breakfast tomorrow morning and then keep myself busy with a houseful of guest on sunfay, as well as take time out to phone G and wish him happy birthday.

Speaking of G I have to say that I miss him terribly, but I will survive. We have been in contact and some of his messages just leave me smiling so much that people have to tell me to stop it! I guess he just brings out my happy side.

Now i’m off to bed, to await father christmas and the joys that tomorrow morning will bring.

To you all I wish a very Merry Chirstmas and I hope that your day is a relaxing and happy one.

Home is where the heart is… that and the large cup of tea

Well, I’m home and having ploughed my way through the 1000’s of spa, comments that i had whilst pressing the delete button I can actually find the time to make a post.

The flight(s) home were uneventful. My 3 hour wait in gatwick was made much more bearble by a) my random travel buddy whom i only ever seem to see in the airport/train station and b) the fact that G called my and i just started grinning and couldn’t stop. My travel buddy had a go at me for being sickening so i hid behind my book until the grin faded into a smile. To pass the time however we did go posh bird spotting. There is method to our madness. According to FHM posh birds are instantly more attractive when they swear so we wanted to test this theory. Unfortunately we couldn’t seem to find anyone who matched our criteria and it wasn’t made any easier by the fact that we kept freaking people out by staring at them!

Anyhoo, I got home to be greeted by a huggy mum, a huggy brother, a huggy dad… and 2 cats who blatantly ignored me. Lucy was the funniest. She wanted her food putting down but seeingas she was trying to ignore me at the same time she kept looking about 2 inches to my left in order to get my attention. Needless to say i refused to panda to her until she actually looked at me. I know, I know… I can be so cruel.

Thursday night we went to the pub for dinner and stayed for the pub quiz (as you do). I actually knew some of the answers which was surprising but we didn’t win. ah well, i think i was really too tired to care.

Friday i was hauled out of bed nice and early (because mum wouldn’t see me otherwise apparently) and then went into town to meet my bro for lunch. We spent half an hour looking for somewhere to have lunch first though but we eventually got in somewhere and it was very tasty. I pointed and laughed at all the people still doing their christmas shopping (well i don’t get the opportunity to do that very often) and killed time by getting a book from the library which i later discovered i already own… oops!

Friday night was my daddy’s chirstmas meal for work so on wen the gladrags and off we went. My skills at tying a bow-tie were called into action and i must say both our men folk were looking very dapper. The evening was fun, drunken and interesting. Again i think exhaustion took over as i refused to go to another bar and decided home and bed were the best plan.

So that’s what we did.

And that brings us up to today. My mummy darling allowed me to sleep in (hooray!) so i’m feeling nice and refreshed - well all except for a sore throat. I have my first shift back at the star tonight which’ll be fun and I have a meeting with the people at the opera house tomorrow as apparently they’re desperate for stage hands for their panto! Will i never learn?! It should be a laugh though. ONe of my very good techy mates from school will be doing it as well and it’ll be just like old times. Plus this time the magic words “they’ll pay you” came into the conversation!

So all i need to do now is put all my washing away and decided exactly what i want to do with my day. It’s a hard life. No wait, I know what i have to do today i think. We have to assemble the christmas tree. Apparently dad saw 3 blokes attempting the same one in the airport and they gave up. This should be fun!

no.. .time… to … do… anything…

Oh my God, I am so SO busy!

The choir concert went wonderfully well. The master even said to us afterwards that he enjoyed our “little sing song” (you’ve gotta love that guy, he’s the only person I know who would volunteer to come out of a wardrobe wearing nothing but boxers!)

The night after we had the Big Band Gig at which I was working the bottle bar. We must’ve made a small fortune and everyone had a really wicked time. It didn’t take us too long to clear up either.

Which brings us approximately to yesterday, and Panto Panto. I arrived to find I had no stage crew (not good me thinks) and hastily had to find some people who didn’t mind missing 2 formals and a large ent to help us out. I resorted to bribery in the end, and it worked. So several frantic phone calls and one large G&T later we were finally able to start focussing the lights… without the set.

That’s right folks, we were focussing onto nothing, and will have to re-focus tonight.

At 1:00am we finally called it a day and I fell into G’s bed, exhausted. I knew it was gonna be a bad day yesterday if only because i woke up with a coldsore. Which meant that when I really wanted to kiss G to make things seem a whole lot better… I couldn’t.

Arse Biscuits.

Today we have the second half of our tech run through, this time with set, props and possibly even the actors doing as they’re told. But I’m sure it’ll all be fine on the night… hopefully.

At least the cow knows what she’s doing.

p.s. I AM getting smoe actual uni work done as well but it’s so dull that i didn’t think it was really worth mentioning!
Will update again when i have more time to breathe. THis could be this weekend if I haven’t done something drastic about panto panto before then!

A quick note

First off I’d just like to say thank you for all your kind words of support over the whole West Side Story thing. If they managed to dent my confidence at all then you guys seriously restored it. So thank you, oh and Rob? just bring yourself and leave the baseball bat at home!

I don’t really have much to say at the moment. My life just seems to be rolling along and nothing of note appears to have happened. Ladies night was long, the Hatfield cup was a 2 day rowing event that involved me standing on the river all day and freezing my arse off. We have the choir concert on friday and everything seems to be going to plan.

One of my friends has finally made some choices, and though i may not think that they’re for the best, it’s what will make them happy… and I guess that’s all that matters. Our friendship may take a knock because of it but I’m sure it’ll work out in the end. If not then I shall just have to mourn the loss of a good friend.

But who knows. Term ends in a couple of weeks and a lot can happen over the holidays. Speaking of which i really ought to go do some of this work that’s waiting for me, syntax waits for no man!

Be good to yourselves, and each other*

AxXx

*will i have to pay royalties on that line?!
